I started collecting Fossils when I was a small child. We would spend days searching for a gathering fossils. What a thrill it was when we came across a large fossil bed, it was as if we were gold miners who had just hit the motherload. It wasn't until many years later I learned I was disturbing the continuity of history. That fossil had gone untouched for millions of years until we came by and scooped it up. I did not realize the valuable information that was lost by not spending the extra time to jot down a few notes, such as where it was found, what other fossils were found in the same area, what other things were surrounding it, identifying it and tagging it.
It is the same when collecting Real Photo Postcards,(when taken from their original orgins the continuity of their history is broken). It is important to spend the little extra time it takes to jot down some extra notes such as where did you buy it, if possible find out it's original origins, (I sometimes contact the seller to see if they can give me information on the origins.), note the names on the back and the date. For a collection that has more meaning and value do all you can to preserve not only the Photos/Postcards but also to restore the continuity of their history.
In the attempt to solve some mysteries still unsolved of my own I have created a scrapbook on this network entitled Unidentified RPPC's in hopes that the greater community may be able to help me identify them. These images will change from time to time when a card is identified or as I run into dead ends on my research on other cards.
