Los Angeles Ephemera

Hello,

I'm handling an estate sale in Santa Monica and we have varied types of Ephemera.

There are 1950's - 70's Popular Electronics, Westways, LA Times, National Geographic, Maps, Theater Arts, Playbills, 1800's photographs, The New Yorker, Newsweek  plus so much more.

The public sale is January 12th. However, if a collector is interested and avail on Tues., we can set up an appointment to show the collection.

We are liquidating…

I Start A New Collecting Site!

I've started a new site, Inherited Values, because I wanted a place where I could, with other moms and pops in the biz, focus on sharing the joys of collecting old things with collectors. Dealers, after all, have plenty of matchmaking tales ;)

As the site tagline says, we don’t do antiques and vintage collectibles by the book!

* At Inherited-Values.com the focus isn't on… Continue

Society Sweet Scotch Snuff

What I did not know was that snuff basically comes in two versions... the (primarily) European version, which is dry and usually scented or flavored and is intended to be sniffed through the nose. And then there…

Cross-Eyed Ape Joke Still Works After All These Years

I paid 50 cents for this fragile old piece of paper mocking a woman for the way she dresses. (At first glance, I was certain it was mocking the man; but the ape proffers a red dress with white hearts.) I'm not sure why I had to have it; but I did.

Ephemera Blog Carnivals

The long story is here, but the short version is that because I'm addicted to ephemera & vintage stuff, I have two problems when I turn to Google for information (one is what’s missing, and the other is that I don’t know about something in order to find it) , I've started two blog carnivals:… Continue

Postcards are a Glorious Blast from the Past!

As postcard collectors and sellers we see lots and lots of postcards. We have lots and lots of postcards.........LOL. I'm in the process of trying to get our personal collection scanned and loaded to an album.........but in the meantime, we've revamped our Postcard categories on cemetarian, so that they are easier to find.

Here are my favorites. For some reason I prefer and collect these Linen Motor Courts. The colors and… Continue

Great Fashion Illustrations

My first contribution to the Ephemera Network are two suit company style catalogs from mid-century. Great fashion illustration - "suit"able for framing.

These catalogs were purchased at a recent estate sale in Tulsa.

1) Wm Harris Woolen Co 1953-54 Autumn & Winter Styles for Men & Women
2) Wawak Co Portfolio Fashions for Men and Women - 1960 Spring and Summer

Surround Yourself with Vintage Advertisements

Remember that fancy party dress Mom wore to the Country Club, Dad’s favorite fishing lure or the family’s first new car? Those items may be gone but you can take a walk down memory lane with the old ads.

Vintage advertisements are colorful, nostalgic, and are an excellent and inexpensive way to change your décor in just a few moments. Take a simple frame with a simple mat and you can change the ad to fit your mood in the blink of an eye.

Magazine advertisements are a… Continue

Photography group to check out

Didn't know if anyone was aware of a great place to display, view old photos

It's a flickr group

The Museum of Found Photographs.

Check it out by clicking here. You can waste a lot of non-precious time farting around looking at the photos... and upload some of your own. I did.

And a tip -- try right clicking on the link so it will open in a new tab or window... we've got to figure out a way to make the… Continue
