The now imprisoned Lynne Stewart (Note: This IS an ephemera related post -MF)

Since 2002, pundits in the U.S. news media have called her everything from an activist and radical lawyer to a terror moll and terror monger - while in news commentaries and articles, they have also suggested she “Play well…” and “Rot in Hell.” Of course, I’m talking about disbarred civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart, who at the age of 70, surrendered to federal authorities here in New York City on November 19, 2009 to begin a 28-month sentence for assisting terrorism. Free on bail since… Continue

Off to Charm City

I'm off to Baltimore for a couple weeks and curious - any good ephemera spots? I actually lived there a couple years back (although only for a few months) but ephemera wasn't on my radar then so I am clueless!

Thanks in advance for the help.

Be Thankful - Special Thanksgiving Gift to Veterans

I've acquired a lot of these stamps/tags, and would like to extend an offer to our nation's bravest citizens. If you are a veteran and would like one of these, I'll happily send you one free, just message me with your address.

Offer's good between now and Thanksgiving.

Again, I'm an ephemera rookie so I don't have any history on these but figure they are post WWII? Please chime in if you know anything about… Continue

The time I met Pete Seeger

Pete Seeger was in the news a week ago here in New York City. He, with many others performed or spoke at a memorial tribute for Mary Travers of Peter, Paul & Mary fame. It took place at the Riverside Church in Harlem, which holds upwards of 2,000 people.

Seeger is of course an iconic singer/songwriter/activist who has dedicated his life to celebrating others through song, and I secured his autograph almost eight years ago to the day - twice when he appeared with… Continue

An invitation.

I recently posted the first images of pieces from my contemporary New York City-focus autographed and non-autographed paper ephemera collections on the site – some of which are related to the aftermath of 9/11 here. Check them out in the All Scrapbook section of TEN.

I also invite you to check out some of my writing and additional posting of images of from my collections elsewhere online.

I'm a Cutter...

I have a confession. I collect ephemera for two main reasons. First, I save 50's (and sometimes other) era invitations and note cards for possible future use. If I marry and breed, I've got some killer baby shower invites stored for use. It's reason enough to procreate, really. Secondly, I like to cut. A pair of Fiskars, ye olde X-acto, one of my razor-sharp fingernails...it matters not. I like to cut up paper. And I'm sorry if you now hate… Continue

Ephemera... the Source

The Wikipedia definition of Ephemera is "transitory written and printed matter" ... and that is what many of us, who have an interest in Ephemera focus on.

But backing up a step... we need to look at the source of much of that Ephemera... and a museum in North Andover, Massachusetts may well be the place to start.

The Museum of Printing was founded in 1979 and thus is now celebrating its 30th…
