You're starting out like many of us probably did - finding a few interesting items and then trying to learn more about them. It's like eating popcorn, though, I have to warn you! And it's so much more fun to search nowadays. Without the internet.....

I once had a $10 bill with "Hawaii" stamped across it (someone took it from my house, sad to say). I wanted to keep it for mainly historical purposes. Fascinating find for you! Isn't it wonderful how we "ephemerists" can always find a new passion,...

Interest in Ephemera
Collector
About Me:
Ephemera collector since grade school. Worked in Special Collections during graduate school. 3-D artist utilizing ephemera. I all myself "The Assemblagist" because every piece of art I create contains a part of something from the past.

Freelance writer, publisher of The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature (deadmule.com), wife, grandmother, owner of 3 Jack Russells, some-time gardener... '09 update, we adopted a huge puppy part-rottweiler, part-shar pei and some blood hound mixed in. She a real treat. We nicknamed her "Mothra" but call her "Roxanne". I do love dogs.

I'm the person who pulls over on the side of the highway to pick up a broken chair or to move a snake or box turtle out of the middle of the street. Does that make me a roadside ephemera collector and zoologist? I grew up in Arkansas, that explains everything. I have a niche store which utilizes ebay search functions called Buy Ephemera .

Fine Arts Show - My ephemera won first place.

Hey ya'll. I used some 1960s era ephemera to create a multi-media 3D art piece titled "Fishing for Nixon". Entered it in the Beaufort County Arts Council Fine Arts Show and won first place and also an honorable mention for another piece. In all, I entered 4 pieces -- all wil be featured at the Arts Council through Dec. so needless to say, I'm thrilled. All 4 pieces contained ephemera - torn photos, magazine ads, parts of books. The best part is the prize $, which means I can buy MORE ephemera.… Continue

Jack Dempsey's autograph

Hey!! wow!! Going through a pile of papers yesterday, I found a "Good Luck, Jack Dempsey" pencil signature on the back of a piece of paper. The autograph matches the ones I've found online. The paper is from the Boy Scouts, World's Fair, New York, which would have been 1939 (according to my research) so there really is a great chance Dempsey was there and signed it. Now i have to place Dempsey at the World's Fair and blammo, it's a real autograph. I don't doubt it's authenticity, but it is bette… Continue

Joseph von Wachter, a history lesson from two post cards

Joseph von Wachter walked from Nome, Alaska to New York in 1914. Over 4,000 of the total 10,742 miles, were covered with a dog team. Von Wachter visited the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, CA and the Panama-California Exposition, San Diego, CA. On the back of the one cent card, Wachter himself wrote: "Remember the evening of the Sept. 29, 1915 at the Hafbrau. The next card is signed by von Wachter on the front "Yours truly, Prof. Joseph von Wachter."

Google ads on TEN

okay, so is it only on my page or do ya'll get the FatLoss4Idiots.com Google ad every time you pull up the site? Do I need to take it personally?

Maybe I should start Ephemera4Idiots. I would instruct people on how to collect CVS pharmacy receipts... or Walgreens.

Photography group to check out

Didn't know if anyone was aware of a great place to display, view old photos
It's a flickr group
The Museum of Found Photographs.
Check it out by clicking here. You can waste a lot of non-precious time farting around looking at the photos... and upload some of your own. I did.

And a tip -- try right clicking on the link so it will open in a new tab or window... we've got to figure out a way to make the links on TEN do that, right?… Continue

I don't know if I ever got around to formally thanking you for adding me as a friend, if not, Thank you. I have been spending time on your website and have to say I am quite impressed, Great work! Your article "Everyone Wears A Nametag" was especially touching, I don't think it could be put in any better words.

Hi Valerie,
Thanks for your nice comment. I love writing about this subject, indeed fascinating, but I have to spend all my time to a new enterprise on the internet. However I will add a new story in a few moments. Who can resist a request from a woman who picks up turtles from the street?
