Good article Frank. I don't have a typewriter... but often wish I did. Forms, labels for file folders, and the occasional odd shaped document are just a few of the reasons why. Tom

This will definitely be a potential over-night trip for me. I knew that there were several printing museums in San Francisco (including book binding, typesetting, etc.). But I had never heard of this one until you posted about it, Tom. I'm a print...

Sorry for the delayed response. I can't say I know a great deal about the coffee trading cards. I have a small collection of Arbuckles cards and few from Lion coffee. Because these were designed to be collected, they are generally plentiful for br...

Ephemera... the Source

The Wikipedia definition of Ephemera is "transitory written and printed matter" ... and that is what many of us, who have an interest in Ephemera focus on.

But backing up a step... we need to look at the source of much of that Ephemera... and a museum in North Andover, Massachusetts may well be the place to start.

Coffee Cards??

I wish I spoke French. I also wish I knew more about "Coffee Cards".

Perhaps our Network creator, Mike Ferguson, can give us a little background on just what Coffee Cards are, where they were popular, collect-ability etc.

This site - http://bibigreycat.blogspot.com/ - seems to have a vast collection of t… Continue

Society Sweet Scotch Snuff

I must admit, I had never heard of "Sweet Scotch Snuff" until today.

But a quick search of Wikipedia tells me that "Snuff is ground or pulverized tobacco, which is generally inhaled or "snuffed" through the nose." That much of course I knew.

What I did not know was that snuff basically comes in two versions... the (primarily) European version, which is dry and usually scented or flavored and is intended to be sniffed through the nose. And then there is moist snuff - oft

Thanks for your welcome, Tom. I found the site through the Ephemera Society of America, of which I am a member. I haven't had time to figure out what the Network is all about as yet. Is there an "orientation" page that describes the features and functions? -- Lee Kirk, The Prints & The Paper (aka "The Ephemera Queen" in some circles)

Thanks, Tom, wouldn't have found this site if you hadn't tweeted your blog post!

Looking forward to being active, already joined two groups and sent out a few friend requests. I can't think of a group that could be more up my alley!

Thanks,Cliff

Small world, eh? I have family near you in Florida as well.

I'm going to check out the post about the Vietnam-era ephemera. That's interesting to me. Thanks!

Tom, thank you for mentioning my Antiquarian Holographica blog. I have finally joined The Ephemera Network here at ning, and thought I'd stop by to say hello (just getting things set up here myself).

Hi Tom,
Thank you for your nice reply and comment. When we have many more members, it will still be easy to find what you are looking for.

Tom,
The Network as I see it can become a world wide source of information about items, collectors, researchers, publications, museums and dealers. By creating separate Groups we make it easier for Network users to find what they are looking for. Yes, we will get many Groups, is that really a problem? Groups can be found in different ways, user friendly.
Thanks,
Gejus

Hello Tom,
I have started new Groups for dealers per theme and took the liberty of listing you in 'Ephemera dealers' and 'Vintage Advertising dealers'.
Please let me know if you disagree or like to make changes.
Thanks,
Gejus
