The Beano Comic

"Martin, this brought back happy memories and reminded me of so many other comics now disappeared. I heard a tale told of the late Denis Gifford, cartoonist for comics, writer and collector of the genre. His comic collection took over his house. A GP…"

"Infomercial" Picture Posts

.Is there a place in Picture Posts for Ephemera images posted with an informative (or personal view) narrative. I believe it makes the post more interesting and is particularly engaging where comparisons between US and European culture can be drawn.Perhaps, in this increasingly cosmopolitan world, such observations are “nerdish”? At least, one could argue, such altruistic motives are more easily defended than straight commercial plugs..See More

"Bernie, a tidy and informative piece of work. I get the impression that your real passion is for the 20th C advertising? You will have to resist the urge to continually ‘tweek’ it to perfection. . Martin"

Are Billheads Limited Edition Antique Art?

My interest in Billheads began about 15 years ago when I unearthed a few in a failing “Antique Shop”. As an Engineer, a student of the Industrial Revolution, someone who has very vivid memories of grandparents Victoriana and a fascination with late Victorian society, this previously unknown category of ephemera became intriguing. (In actual fact most readily obtainable English illustrated billheads date between 1900 and 1930)These documents encapsulated the spirit of Kingdom-Brunell…See More

"HI, It may be of some interest to you that I am a collector of British Billheads only (I live in England). There appears to be very little interchange between the 2 groups and therefore (bearing in mind the engraving process) this suggests that all…"

About Me:
A Professional Engineer and qualified Teacher. I live about 25 miles west of London England. I have always been interested in Victorian and Edwardian history, and especially (post Industrial Revolution) Engineering. British billheads are effective in documenting Industry and it’s commercial aspects. I have have recently started seriously collecting although I bought a few examples about 10 years ago.

My main interest is in Manufacturing Industry and to some extent Wholesalers & Traders. Geographically the central ‘Midlands’ area of England especially Birmingham.
