About Me:
I have spent a lifetime acquiring paper collectibles: postcards, cigarette cards, old adverts and packaging, virtually anything on any theme that has taken my eye. I have tended to concentrate on art and graphic design more than photo images.

My websites: http://www.spanglefish.com/TheEphemeraAlbumPart2/
has adverts. Site 1 (below) displays early printed items (chromos, etc).

Invitation to TEA

You are all invited over to my place for TEA (The Ephemera Album link on my page). This site concentrates on Victorian and Edwardian printing plus a couple of pages aimed at young children. There is a link to part 2 which concentrates on 20th century advertising. I have added some images as a taster.

There are also links to 2 Sooty memorabilia sites which contain some ephemera. By way of an explanation for those on the other side of the Atlantic, this has at one time been the longest running ch… Continue

You lucky lad, Ray. It is the unexpected that we all hope for in the hunt. I do, however find it a tad sad that there was no family left, or none with interest, to take such personal items. I also find it poignant when I look at old cards in my co...

Hi Deanna, I have recently added a good number of images to my sites (The Ephemera Album and The Ephemera Album part 2). 2 includes a new page on Fashion which has a number of ads and a mag cover. The page UK House and Home has ads from a period w...

Martin, this brought back happy memories and reminded me of so many other comics now disappeared. I heard a tale told of the late Denis Gifford, cartoonist for comics, writer and collector of the genre. His comic collection took over his house. A ...

I would like to thank Tom Murphy for featuring The Ephemera Album on his blog Encore-Ephemera. Thanks also for the kind comments from Frank and Martin. Martin - the sites are running at less than half capacity at present so plenty of room for twee...

Martin, I like these footnotes - esp if they have a personal element to them.

Bernie, a tidy and informative piece of work. I get the impression that your real passion is for the 20th C advertising? You will have to resist the urge to continually ‘tweek’ it to perfection. . Martin

Now a British icon. I've got one of these standing on my drive waiting for my daughter to pass her test. Its in pink with black racing stripes over the boot and bonnet, black & pink racing chequers on the roof ad pink interior.

It was the art work and the intricate design of the boarders (I think it was this that was the security element) that led me to obtain a number of examples. I have a few of these on my site - The Ephemera Album, under the heading Security Printing.

Bernie, thanks for the invite. I stopped over briefly just now, and you are truly an ephemerist. I plan on visiting again, for a longer stay, over the weekend. With tea, of course. The clock is about to chime midnight here in three minutes, so I m...

Kyle, I share your disappointment. My wife set up a site purely for pleasure earlier this year on a UK children’s classic TV character called Sooty - a hand puppet of a bear. I followed with an ephemera site and did everything by the book like you...

Another thought (since you are so willing to help). Ads from old magazines - do they sell, are they worth more than the magazine intact (i.e. WWII Life magazines)?

Read recently that greeting cards should be taken out of their envelopes. The envelope is the good part though. It shows the date, recipient, etc. What do you think? Thanks.

Bernie, you look like a collector who might be interested in some of the "stuff" we have. My problem is that we don't have a lot of any one thing. Moved out of the old house (100+ years) and found that David's family never threw out anything. So I have pieces of this and that. LOTS of cards, and LOTS of scraps of other types of paper. If you are not particularly interested in such an odd assortment, can you refer me to someone who might be? I just can't go through this piece by piece and try to find buyers for it all. I would like to have someone at least give me an idea of prices for cabinet cards, tintypes, cards, etc., etc. Thanks for any help. Judy

What is a Merchant bank? I have a few preprinted checks from places like Monkey Ward and another one that I can't remember at the moment. Is this what you mean? There is one entire year of household checks. The notations make them especially interesting - at least to me. These are from either the 20s or 30s, I believe. Thanks for commenting. I need all the help I can get.
