John P. Kelsey - Early Pioneer. Built the first two story house in Galveston. He participated in the defense of Corpus Christi during the Comanche raids of 1842 and 1845. He credited himself with being the first to use the name Corpus Christi, Texas. He was elected chief justice of Starr County in 1852. It is thought he was the first to introduce barbed wire to Jim Hogg County. In 1882, and again in 1886 and 1888, he was elected county judge of Starr County.
F. C. Armstrong - Frank Armstrong is one of the unusual few soldiers who had the distinction of leading both Union and Confederate troops into battle during the war. After the war, Armstrong worked with the Overland Mail Service in Texas. He was later a U.S. Indian Inspector from 1885 to 1889, and served as an Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1893 to 1895.
