This Trade Card was printed in 1878 and given by "Cheap John the Tobacconist" of New Bedford, Mass. I wonder if he sold his goods at a discount, or he was just plain frugal.

Hello Everyone! I found this Ad for "Mail Pouch" Tobacco printed in script on the back of an envelope from the New McLure House Hotel in Wheeling, West Virginia dated 1894. At first I thought that it was a hand-written note from the sender until I took a second look. I wonder if the Tobacco Company paid the hotel to have these ads printed on their hotel stationery.

I recognized DiMaggio and Musial in that Baseball Ad............

One of my favorite ironic tobacco ads (and I don't have one scanned 'case we avoid selling them) are the (brand escapes me at the moment) ones with the baby who recommends the brand to his dad....next time I find one I'll save and scan it.

The ad is dated 1948, the players are Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Bob Elliott, Joe DeMaggio, Bucky Harris and Ewell Blackwell.

That's surely a winner Nancy. I bet the baseball fans amongst us could even name each of the players (I can't). Any idea what era that is from?

I Always like the Chesterfield Cigarette Ads with Famous Baseball Players Advertising for that Brand.

I have never seen that brand- so I would say it could be an off Brand.
But I do not smoke so never go over to cigarette areas of any store.

Does this "Tall" cigarette ad qualify as an "off brand" of cigarette.

I like the ads of off Brands of cigarettes, what even happened to them.
Spring the "air-conditioned" cigarette.

I agree with both Bev and Nancy. As much as I hate cigarettes and tobacco... they sure had some great ads in their day. I have uploaded one of my favorites here
