This is a signed photo of Test Pilot Bill Dana standing aongside the famous X-15 experimental aircraft. As a research pilot, Bill Dana (born William H. Dana in 1930) was involved in some of the most significant aeronautical programs carried out at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, CA. He was the last to fly the X-15. For his service as a flight research pilot, he received NASA's Distinguished Service Medal in 1997. He served as Chief Engineer at Dryden from 1993 until 1998.

This is an original 1938 photo taken of famous flyer Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan performing maintenance on his OX-5 Robin aircraft which he dubbed "The Crate". Corrigan flew across the Atlantic from Floyd Bennett Airfield in New York to Ireland in 1938 when he was supposedly heading west towards California. He claimed that heavy fog and a malfunctioning compass caused him to head the "wrong way". Corrigan became a national hero overnight and his name became synonymous with someone who gets lost while traveling. This photo was taken by famous aviation photographer Rudy Arnold at Floyd Bennett Field shortly after Corrigans famous flight.

Recently at a "Second Hand Shop", I discovered a box of World War I letters written by an American Aviator stationed at Campo Aviazione Militare in Foggia,Italy. After researching this correspondence, I learned that over 400 American pilots were stationed at that camp, which was a flight school for training with various U.S. borrowed Italian aircraft and it also served as a foward air field for use against the Germans and Turkish. I also found that future New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia was in command of this authors unit. Upon the United States entry into WW I,most aircraft utilized by the American Expeditionary Force's Aviation Section were borrowed from other countries and each pilot would have to qualify to fly these foreign machines, which mostly proved better than anything the U.S. had at the time.

Displayed here is a letter which was flown via catapulted aircraft from the German Ocean Liner SS Europa in 1934. The "Europa Catapult" was in service during the secret Nazi military experiment phase period of the early 1930's. Hailed as a "marvel" at the time, a ship-borne aircraft used for the rapid delivery of mail and the transport of emergency medical supplies or personnel. Little did most Americans know that all along the Germans were experimenting with a method of launching military fighters and bombers from yet to be built Aircraft Carriers which were to be used in a future War. Fortunately the German Navy's Aircraft Carrier programs were never realized.
