newbie with one of many questions

Hi,I am new to collecting ephemera,but I do like it. I am trying to learn about it and it sure takes the research to find out about items. The item I am interested in now is a ticket(actually several) that fell out of an old book I was dusting off. They are about as big as a credit card and say:The Columbus Railway,Power and Light Co.-5 cent cash fare receipt,redeemable for 1/18 cents or U.S. thrift stamps and it goes on with some other stuff,,,they are numbered and on side says:Globe Ticket Co. Phil.PA.There was also a smaller one about as big as two postage stamps for one cent.I assume they are from the trolley days in Columbus ,Oh ,which is late 19th,early 20th century. I don't expect much out of them,but does anyone know if they are worth much? I am having a hard enough time with more widely available items,let alone an obscure item's value. I have only been on Ebay awhile and I must say it's fun,but is that the way for items like these? thanks in advance for any replies Tracy

You're starting out like many of us probably did - finding a few interesting items and then learning more about them. It's like eating popcorn, though, I have to warn you! And it's so much more fun to search nowadays. Without the internet... I remember driving to university libraries to track down the origins of many types of ephemera, back in them old days. Some people specialize, others enjoy a little bit of everything - tickets are a fantastic place to start. Just last week, as I sorted my mother's papers, a ticket from the 1940 World Series fell out of a package of my father's letters. Crosley Field and my Dad's sainted Cincinnati Reds won that series. I saved all the concert tickets from my youth and there are movie ticket stubs in my "box of treasures" from the 1950s-1960s.

Thanks for the reply,I always liked collecting books and stuff always falls out of them that people hid away or maybe used for book markers.I have sold a few old postcards and souvenir folders,but books are my main seller,but still just starting. I did put the tickets on ebay just to see what happens. I guess the older I get the more this stuff seems kind of cool to collect and hopefully sell what I don't want to keep. Trace
