THE EPHEMERA NETWORK

A Community Site for Anyone and Everyone Interested in Ephemera

Hi everyone -
I am going to London and I was wondering if anyone can recomend any flea markets, shops, etc, for ephemera shopping.
My basic passion is paper items such as travel brochures, airline time-tables, ocean liner time-tables, auto road maps, luggage labels, advertising, and graphic design publications from the 1920s and 1930s, primarily in Europe but also Asia and, to a small degree, the U.S.A.
Also, 1950s and 1960s business ephemera, brochures, maps, etc...
thanks

David, I stayed in London for several months back in 2002. Had I more than a nickel to my name, I'd have been back since! Lovely, peculiar place. I recommend the weekend market along Portabello Road. The shops are open all week, but the stalls are only open Saturday, I believe. There's lots to pilfer, and the further you walk, the lower the prices get. A mixed lot really, so couldn't say how much ephemera to be found but a great time regardless. Get a crepe ( I recommend banana, miel, sucre) from the French gent's cart early on and later grab a hunk of chicken from the German chap.
Hi David,
Apologies I only recently joined the list and you've probably long finished your trip to London. Portabello Road is an excellent suggestion, but should you venture back to the UK and be able to hire a car I can certainly recommend Ken's Paper Collectable's at Newport Pagnell in North Buckinghamshire (my home county) probably the best surviving non ebay broad based ephemera business in the UK, its a bit of a trek from London but well worth a visit. Alternatively you can telephone to leave requests. I should add I don't have any professional connection with the store - only that I am a very satisfied customer of many years.
