THE EPHEMERA NETWORK

A Community Site for Anyone and Everyone Interested in Ephemera

Hi everyone -
I am going to London and I was wondering if anyone can recomend any flea markets, shops, etc, for ephemera shopping.
My basic passion is paper items such as travel brochures, airline time-tables, ocean liner time-tables, auto road maps, luggage labels, advertising, and graphic design publications from the 1920s and 1930s, primarily in Europe but also Asia and, to a small degree, the U.S.A.
Also, 1950s and 1960s business ephemera, brochures, maps, etc...
thanks
David Levine

can you please pack me in your luggage...lol.....I know if If you do any auction buying there is 10%-15% buyers premium depends on the auction house. Plus there is V.A.T (value added tax- a percentage of the final hammer price) its usually no more than a couple pounds or euros depending your spending habbits. If you go a auction house you can ask about specialist sales that deal only with paper they do have in london

David, I stayed in London for several months back in 2002. Had I more than a nickel to my name, I'd have been back since! Lovely, peculiar place. I recommend the weekend market along Portabello Road. The shops are open all week, but the stalls are only open Saturday, I believe. There's lots to pilfer, and the further you walk, the lower the prices get. A mixed lot really, so couldn't say how much ephemera to be found but a great time regardless. Get a crepe ( I recommend banana, miel, sucre) from the French gent's cart early on and later grab a hunk of chicken from the German chap.
