I don't know who on here sells and who on here buys and sells vintage papers -- but I'd like to start again a discussion Mike had back in May.

How do ya'll feel about cutting up pages of magazine for their ads? Personally, I'd rather buy the entire page... or the magazine for that matter. I don't sell, though, I buy. If I were a seller, it would probably be different for me... or would it?

Valerie,
Been loooking at your stuff. Like it. An Emporium.
As a teacher of English in Thailand for 20 years, I always collected far and wide...Laos,Cambodia,India.
my friend used to sell my stuff at Flea markets etc.. Now I do myself, and still collect...collect.

I have just joined, so I decided to take a look at one of the recommended merchants selling magazines on e-bay. I was appalled to find under "magazines" a series of cut out advertisements selling for a few dollars. While advertisements may be attractive for their nostalgic value, IMO, it is the complete magazine that is desirable. Looking through its pages in its entirety provides the historical, sociological, and nostolgic experience I desire.
If I may respond to this post extremely late, I am brand new to vintage ad selling. I bought some old magazines at an estate sale, and immediately fell in love with wonderful artwork and retro vibe of the advertising, and soon started selling them myself (a good way to justify having piles and piles of old magazines around the house!). I don't know what buyers in general prefer, being too new at this. But most of the ads I sell are full page ads, so the page cutting is not an issue. When I do sell partial page ads, I have been trimming them to slightly larger than the ad, to allow for framing if desired. I may find that that's a mistake, I don't know! However, there are times when there are two absolutely wonderful ads on the same page, and there's nothing for it but to cut, anyway. Would be interested in hearing more on your viewpoint on this, two years down the road - thanks!
